ELECTRIVERT

Launch of the Interreg Switzerland - France project: ELECTRIVERT: Turning biomass into electricity.

Valorizing biomass energy and promoting its conversion into electricity by SOFC fuel cell systems.

ElectrivertThe overall objective of the ELECTRIVERT project is to locally enhance the energy provided by biomass, in particular biogas, by promoting its conversion into electricity using innovative SOFC fuel cell systems. For the partnership made up of design offices, specialist companies and teaching and research institutes, the first step will be to establish an inventory of the production, enhancement and distribution of biogas in the cooperation area and to develop this sector there with producers of agricultural organic waste. The second objective of the project is to optimise the manufacturing technologies for solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) to convert biogas from organic waste into electricity and heat. This will involve developing elementary cells of variable dimensions to produce 50 W prototype stacks running on biogas.

KNOWSKITE-X

FIAXELL as associated partner in the KNOWSKITE-X project.

Knowskite-xThe project will demonstrate a science-based approach to the development of electrode materials forming key parts of reversible chemical-to-power cells. Such devices operate in two modes: in fuel cell (FC) mode, it converts hydrogen into electricity whereas when operating as electrolyser cell (EC), it uses excess electricity to form hydrogen from water electrolysis. This versatility enables the integration of intermittent renewable energy sources with the electrical grid by storing the excess energy as carbon-free chemical fuel. In particular, the project targets mixed oxides with perovskite structure with minimised critical content while keeping highest possible performances and targeting fair economic viability.

NOUVEAU

Fiaxell in the consortium of the NOUVEAU project, a Horizon Europe research project.

Nouveau-project-eu-ConsortiumThe NOUVEAU project will develop solid oxide cells (SOCs) with innovative La- and PMG-free electrode materials, solid electrolyte and interconnects with an overall reduced amount of REE (30%), recycled Yt (50-70%) and Cr (20%). To this end, advanced coating methodologies and modelling will be employed in combination with sustainable-by-design and recycling approaches.

Modular Stack Tester and Electronic

Fiaxell Partner in Project Modular Stack Tester and Electronics

ModtesterA new product range will be developed for the (SOFC/SOEC) high temperature fuel cell market. It will be a modular stack tester for industrial size cells. Contrary to the competition (see Fiaxell BP p. 4), we will offer to the customers the possibility to buy only what they want and avoiding duplication thus providing a most cost effective solution. In addition, a web accessible database will be created to identify, with a simple keywords search, the concurring SOFC/SOEC degradation phenomena.

ORCEPAC

ceria protective layer pvd screen printing sintering zirconia electrolyte dense SOFC SOEC test setup rig benchSEM picture of a 1 (µm) ceria layer deposited by PVD on a 2R-Cell from FiaxellThe ORCEPAC project is born from a collaboration between the University of Belfort-Monbéliard (UTBM) and Fiaxell (CH). A whole consortium with DEPHIS (France) and EPFL (CH ) has been created to apply for an Interreg application.

The goal of this project is to optimize the deposition of the ceria layer in the frame of two different processes:

- Physical vapor deposition (PVD)
- Screen printing and sintering

The fabrication costs for each technique will be also studied.

The project is funded by the Interreg VA- 2014-2020 fund which finances various projects between partners across the border between Switzerland and France.

SPECo

tubular ceramic kit sofc soec test setup rig benchTubular ceramic kit, developed thanks to the support of the SPECoSince 2011, Fiaxell is considered as a Cleantech company and thus got financial support from the SPECo (Service de la promotion économique et du commerce du canton de Vaud).

This financial support gave to Fiaxell the opportunity to develop a specialized machine for redox resistant 2R-Cell fabrication and the development of the tubular ceramic kit for the Open Flange test Set-Up (see picture on the left).

The SPECo also financially helps Fiaxell for miscellaneous commercial advertisements and worldwide product dissemination.

Eureka eurostars project

RoxSolidCell

SOFC SOEC stack redox cycles resistant cell solidpowerQuality control test performed by SOLIDpower on a short stack of three 2R-Cell (FU = 82 %, Pmax = 0.3 W/cm2, max_efficiency = 47%)The Roxsolidell project is an Eureka-Eurostars application and has been conducted with industrial and academic partners from Switzerland, France and Norway.

During the project, a pilot production line for the redox resistant 2R-Cell could be set up and their integration into an industrial fuel cell stack could be implemented.

The 2R-Cell, mounted in a SolidPower stack, successfully passed the quality control test. Solidpower S.p.a. (Italy), is the producer of the SOFC based CHP system BlueGen

This project has been funded by the European Community and in Switzerland by the State Secretariat for Education Research and Innovation (SERI).
